Reaching for the Stars 2016-17

This year, all art students in grades 5, 7, and 8 at F.M.S. participated in a collaborative project to get the year off to an inspiring start! Our theme and title was "Reaching for the Stars".

Using a drawing technique called "Zentangle",  students created patterns on a tracing of their arms and hands with Sharpie. This technique is calming and helps us to focus, and you can see the students really got into their patterns. The students then helped to assemble gluing the murals together and making Zentangle stars to finish the effect.

The student's name and a selected art work will appear on the web site's main page for the month, and the student will receive recognition through the F.M.S. PBIS program.

Pop Art Food Sculptures

Grade 5 Semester 2 students learned about Pop Art style and artists including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Wayne Theibault. To celebrate the popular role of foods in our American culture, students created life-like food sculptures using Model Magic clay and painted them with tempera.

Van Gogh Inspiration Paintings

In spring of 2016, Grade 5 & 6 Art Club members worked with visiting artist and F.M.S. grad Devin to create these awesome Van Gogh inspired acrylic on canvas paintings. Using techniques seen in van Gogh's famous "Starry Night" and "Sunflowers", students were guided by Devin, then added their own creative touches for the final results.

Below, enjoy the finished works as well as scenes from our sessions with Devin.

This project was funded through a Local Cultural Council grant from the Acushnet Cultural Council!
