2017 Musical Expressions

2016-17 Grade 5 art students studied the abstract expressionist art of Vasily Kandinsky whose work was greatly inspired by music. Students learned how to use a "safety compass" on a piece of antique sheet music to make circular shapes inspired by some of Kandisnky's most famous pieces. Then, students had to choose at least 5 different color schemes to fill in the negative spaces inside of each of the circles with colored pencils. Color schemes included primary, secondary, tertiary, complementary, analogous, cool, warm, neutral, and monochromatic. A huge "Elements of Art" challenge!
